EKM039 Level shifter 4 channels bidirectional
Part.no: 41037734
EKM039 is a simple level shifter for logic signals that enables communication between two systems with different signal levels. The level shifter has four bidirectional channels and works with all regular logic signals and open-drain (like I2C).
The module works with voltages from 1.8V up to 50V. Maximum frequency is dependent on the bus capacitance. By adding external pullup resistors, frequencies up to 1MHz or more can be achieved.
Functions
- Converts logic signals between different voltages
- Bidirectional communication
- Compatible with I2C
Specifications
- Voltage range: 1.8 - 50V
- Pullup resistors: 10kohm
- Dimensions: 16 x 13 x 2.7mm
Connections
Voltage references
Connect the two voltages that will be translated to LV and HV, and also 0V to the GND pins.
The lower voltage should be connected to LV and the higher to HV. Maximum voltage on any of the inputs is 50V.
Don't forget to connect a ground reference, 0V, to the GND pins.
Channels
The four channels are connected on either side of the board, LV1 - LV4 and HV1 - HV4.
Signals can flow flow in either direction by pulling the channel low.
Open-Drain
The transistors responsible for the level conversion can only pull the signal low, which makes the transision speed from low to high depend on the total bus capacitance and the resistance of the pullup resistors.
The advantage of this type of conversion is that several devices can share a bus without problems, simply connect the devices in parallel.
The disadvantage is that the rise time (low to high) is slower than the fall time (high to low). The rise time can be improved by lowering the resistance of the pullup resistors. Simply connect an external resistor between the channel output and LV or HV. With 3.3k pullup resistance, frequencies up to around 1MHz can be achieved.
